It isn’t often that I can score 4 packages of Pampers diapers for $5.36 but the amazing manager at my CVS helped me do that this week.

A month or so I received $30 in Extra Care Bucks from CVS. What are Extra Care Bucks (or ECB’s for short)? They are basically rewards I get for shopping at CVS. So let’s say this week they have toothpaste on sale and you get and ECB for buying it. The sale might be; Buy Crest and get a $2.99 Extra Care Buck. The ECB prints out at the bottom of my receipt and I can turn around and use it to buy anything I want in the store. The best place to start learning how to shop deals at CVS is at Hot Coupon World. There is a message board for CVS beginners with plenty of other members to help you with your questions. Another place I use is The Grocery Game.

So I had earned $30 in Extra Care Bucks but then went on vacation and forgot to check the expiration date when I came back. (ECB’s have expiration dates and must typically be used before they expire). Yesterday I realized mine had expired October 1st!

I had hoped to stock up on diapers with them so I was upset I had let them expire but thought it wouldn’t hurt to ask if I could still use them. I went to the newest CVS near my house. The manager there is probably the nicest manager of a CVS I’ve run into. His wife is also a couponer and he understands that couponers are only trying to save money and aren’t doing anything wrong. He is well-versed on the correct way to use coupons; which is refreshing because many times coupon users run into cashiers that think they are doing fraud by using coupons.

I walked into the store and went straight to the back to ask him about my expired ECB. He said I could use it so off I went to stock up my cart.

A few minutes later I had a cartful of Pampers and ran into the manager again. We had a nice chat about coupons, saving money etc… I was able to let him know about the triple coupons at Lowe’s Foods coming up next week.

4 packages of Pampers at $8.99 each.
1 $1.00 Pampers coupon
1 $30 Extra Care Bucks

= $5.36

AND!!! I received another $5 in Extra Care Bucks because there is a special going on right now with Proctor and Gamble products. Buy $20 worth and get a $5 ECB. (Pampers is a P&G product)

I’m happy with the deal I got and hopefully Target will put out some new Pampers coupons so I can stock up on diapers there.

Wow! Awesome deal! I hate how much diapers cost, it seems like such a waste. Sadly, I don’t have a CVS near me otherwise I’d copy you =)

Wow, now that’s a great deal! It’s also very cool that the CVS manager worked with you. I will have to look into the ECB’s for myself.

    Sheila,
    Thanks for visiting.
I’m really happy that he took the ECB’s. I wasn’t expecting him to, but I guess he was ok with it since they were only 1 day expired.
Learning how to do the deals at CVS can be kind of tricky at first, but you can get some amazing deals there.

Do you have a Target near you? They sometimes have some good deals on diapers. Otherwise just compare the price per diaper (take the purchase price and divide by the number of diapers) to compare what is the best deal. Sometimes those “value” boxes aren’t really the best value.

This rocks. Particularly on diapers - and it’s so great that the manager understood. So rare.

You might try posting a recommendation for these folks on www.measuredup.com - it’s a consumer website where you can post reviews of shops in your neighborhood (or elsewhere). Other people might be glad to know of a store that’s sympathetic.

    ljnd,
Thanks. I’ll have to check out that site, never heard of it before. It sounds like a great idea for a site. I know I’ve run into some terrible customer service at a few other stores. It’s nice when they know what they are doing.

[…] I have 3 boys and have changed more diapers than I even want to count. My youngest is 18 months old. Pampers Cruisers fit him snugly (without being too tight); do not leak even overnight and don’t irritate his sensitive skin. Hands down my fave, even better when I can get them cheap or free with coupons. […]
