$49.07 will Feed My Family This Week

I went and did my weekly grocery shopping at Harris Teeter on Tuesday. Spent $49.07 and got everything I needed to make our meals for the next week. I am well-stocked with cereal, pantry items and organic meat (which I stocked up on when they were on sale) so I didn’t have to buy too much.

Here are a few of the meals I have planned this week:

Parmesan Tilapia, rice and steamed broccoli

Chicken Enchiladas and corn

Spaghetti, homemade meatballs, garlic bread and cucumbers

Amy’s Organic Cheese Pizza (need at least one super easy meal!)

I use coupons and rebates to save on groceries; but I think my biggest savings come from planning my meals ahead of time. By planning our meals I save money because I don’t buy unneeded items, and there are no return trips to the store just because I forgot something (well…usually…). We have at least one easy meal a week; either a leftovers night, breakfast dinner or pizza.

What are you making this week?

Where do you get your rebates from? Do you get them from the paper or from a website? :)

    Jackie,
I get them from a few places. The newspaper, the grocery store (check the beer aisle, there are some great rebates there. In some states you can get rebates from beer companies for things like meat and soda, and no beer purchase is required). I also trade with friends or other refunders at refundcents.com
You might want to check the trading boards at www.refundsweepers.com

How do you buy organic on sale? Not much goes on sale here in the way of organics (I’m in NH). My grocery bill is HEINOUS!

    Adrienne,
I use coupons on organic foods. Email the companies whose products you like (include your name and address). I’ve gotten some good coupons that way. Just recently I emailed Amy’s Organics and they sent me a ton of coupons. Organic frozen, snack, and cereal foods go on sale quite a bit. Just stock up when they are on sale. You can also find organic coupons in the paper, although they don’t come out as often. There is a .55/1 ANY Horizon organic product coupon out right now. That’s a good one, especially to use on their yogurt. Makes it very cheap.

Organic milk doesn’t go on sale too often, just look for the cheapest place to buy it. We have a SuperTarget here that sells Laura’s Organic Beef. It was on sale recently. I had coupons for $2 off any beef item and used them on the meat.

Ebay and coupon trading boards are great places to find good coupons that you might not get in your area. (just watch the seller’s feedback and shipping prices on ebay.) Also, look in the beer/wine aisle. There are often coupons there for things that (depending on your state) don’t require a beer or wine purchase.
